I came across a nice free download sampler from V2 Uk. It has three songs I enjoyed, and two not so much. My favourite of the bunch was Soulsavers - jesus of nothing, which has a great acid-rock groove.

Also check out portrait by Duke Special, which wouldn’t sound out of place on a piece of scratchy 1940s vinyl. The rise of indie has brought with it instruments and styles that we haven’t heard in a few generations, such as the ragtime piano, violin and clarinet heard in this track.

The song by the Cold War Kids, passing the heat is a little repetitive, but builds to a great climax. I also like the sound they’re getting from that slightly-out-of-tune piano.
